Welcome to Mom, Reinvented

change

Sometimes we get into a rut in life. I’ve been doing things the same way for so many years that it’s become hard to change. But change I must. For my health, my sanity, my marriage, my children.

Don’t get me wrong – things aren’t bad. (I fully admit to being a drama queen. Always have been.) In fact, I have an amazing life. But there are things I don’t like about myself. And these things sometimes slap me right in the face in the form of my two offspring. Teaching myself to be a healthier, more disciplined, more relaxed person will benefit me and my entire family. You know that quote from Ghandi, “Be the change you want to see in the world?” Yeah, that’s where I am right now. But I’ll just start out with my family and perhaps save changing the world for a later date.

While this is a brand-spanking-new blog, I’ve actually been blogging for nearly 5 years at PHAT Mommy. And although I’ll be blogging here about a lot of the same topics (parenting, homeschooling, technology), I felt it was time to get away from the “PHAT” misnomer. People didn’t get it. If I spoke it, people thought I meant “fat mommy.” If I wrote it , they thought I was referring to myself as “pretty hot and tempting,” the urban dictionary definition of “PHAT.” And even if they actually visited my blog and read my tagline — Parenting, Homeschooling And Technology — sometimes it still didn’t sink in.

Here at Mom, Reinvented, I’ll be blogging about making changes. Becoming more fit. Learning to be more patient. Organizing a more structured day and learning environment for my kids. Teaching myself (and sharing with you!) how to be a more successful blogger.

There will be reviews. If you don’t like them, don’t read them. I’m not an “essay” blogger. I don’t wax poetic about feminism, breastfeeding, or the dangers of chemicals in our food. There are lots of other bloggers who excel at that. My specialty is finding and sharing information. I’m hoping to help you, and myself, find resources and make good choices that will better our lives and our childrens’ futures.

Thanks for reading.

I’m an idiot. I never realized that was what PHAT stood for. I just always thought you were confident of your “PHAT-ness” as a Mom (and you should be!).
Good luck!

Sounds like an awesome change to me. You go girl. If more of us would take inventory and begin to implement the necessary changes (though it may be hard sometimes), we would be a whole lot better off.

Good luck on your “new” blog! You made me laugh when I read about your reasons for changing the name. So funny that people didn’t get it. Bet the new name will give you no problems at all!

Shannon I don’t know if you know this…but I plan on getting married…to Wordpress. I’m really nervous…I don’t want to get cold feet…but as you know this is a big step in the life of any blogger.

After some thought I’ve decided I will do anything if you will hold my hand through this process. I’m utterly impressed with what you’ve done at SITS, and I will not rest until you agree to cater to my every need. I’m willing to offer 1.3 trillion dollars. Thank you and Amen.

I saw you at Sitscation and you definitely are not “fat”! I think you are urban-phat AND P.H.A.T.-phat but I do like your new name & site too. Thanks for helping us out with all the techie stuff on Saturdays over at SITS. I really look forward to your posts each week:-)

So a spring clean is under way in your life, nothing better. Change for the sake of change is dull but change for the better, the new to refresh well that’s fun, hard exciting and needed.
Have fun

I think reinvention seems to be a common theme for many of us Moms out there – the lines can get a little blurred sometimes when discovering who it is that we are – were and want to be. I love it and will enjoy your blog as I did the old one.

best wishes
Suzi

Yes, if we could all learn that lesson, that is, to just concentrate on our circle of real influence instead of attempting to save the whole world, this world would change overnight.

How wise you are.

We all have things that we wish were better about ourselves. I suspect that’s the reason we are here in the first place, to address those things and do better.

I certainly have many things that I would love not to have done or said in my life. I certainly have weaknesses that I have all to often indulged.

However, that said, as long as we don’t give up, that alone is our salvation.

Thanks for the wonderful post.
